Last year we took out an old hedge and planted two Autumn Amethyst Azaleas and several Lemon Princess Spireas by our front door. The area is filling in nicely.

The purple ajuga are more than 20 years old, but look stunning this spring next to the yellow spirea.

These orange azaleas were planted by the original owners more than 20 years ago. They are huge and so colorful (The little roof is the cover to our well.)

A couple of weeks later, the red Rhododendron and white viburnum next to the red Japanese Maple put on a showl

We like the Rhodies so much that Gordon purchased several more— a red, white and purple one we planted in filtered sun behind our shop.

Last summer we purchased the entire iris collection from Doyle Satterfield. This spring, each day unveils a new named iris. These birght yellow ones are called Havest of Memories.

These purple iris were planted by the original owners under the Japanese Snowbell Tree. Two years ago, Gordon and another WWOOFER from Taiwan dug out about 1000 of them, divided and then replanted them in different spots on our property.

These are called Howdy Do. Because I now have iris with registered names, I was able to enter my first Iris Show hosted by the Greater Portland Iris Society on May 4. And I actually won first place in the Tall Bearded Iris Division— for Smoke RIng (the one in the center, below, and in the garden, at right)!
