You know Autumn has arrived when the leaves begin to put on a colorful show. Here’s our Norwegian Maple by the side of the shop.

Now that we’ve harvested all of the blueberries, the shrubs continue to delight!

Dahlias fill our cutting bed with lots of color. We would have had roses, as well, but deer have found a way over our deer fence or are coming from the Pete’s Mountain side of the property and have decimated the roses. It’s a good thing it is the end of the season and it’s about time to prune them for winter!

Autumn anemones fill the beds by the front door.

These hydrangeas started out white early in the season but turned pinky-red in the fall.

A big surprise were the Cherry Go Round Hydrangeas putting out a second bloom–the dark leaves offset the bright red blossoms.

We cleaned out the iris bed because the shrubs we planted were crowding them out. We moved about 1/3 of our named iris to grow trays elsewhere on our property where they can avoid competition in the spring.

We pruned the big hedge by about 1/3 so that we could see the new beds we added to the pasture from our kitchen.

Cool, crisp mornings make for spectacular sunrises– you can see Mount Hood from afar!
