The blue salvia in Bed #2 is still in bloom, although the hydrangeas have mostly lost their leaves.

If you look carefully, you’ll see the red & white salvia still in bloom, as well.

You can hardly see the Japanese maples, since they have dropped their leaves.

Here’s what they looked like in mid-November.

In December, the structure of the weeping Japanese Maple provides architectural interest.

Here’s what it looked like on November 9th.

Work in the garden doesn’t stop just because it is December. Gordon’s working hard to keep up with the weeds, in between the many rain storms we’re experiencing in the Pacific Northwest. He takes the filled containers to McFarland’s Bark and returns with a trailer filled with compost.

We prepped the veggie garden with straw to protect many of the raspberries and other plants.

Ever economical, we raked up the fallen pine needles and put them around our blueberries as mulch. The acidity helps keep the blueberries blue.

This was in November, but oh, what a view of Petes Mountain Winery–just two doors away (and a looong walk) from our property!

I saved some Allium this summer and made an indoor arrangement so we can enjoy them all winter long.

And here’s our Christmas Cactus–back in November just after Halloween. It bloomed early this year!

Despite the rain and cold, we know that Spring is right around the corner, because here is my favorite red Rhododendron already budding out!

Happy holidays from our home to yours!
